Claire has been working with glass for 7 years. Starting out in sculpture (carving stone), Claire was introduced to kiln-formed glass in Australia and was immediately seduced by glass as a medium.

The intrinsic beauty of glass is mesmerising and these distinctive, bold handmade works are sure to provide a focal point for your home. The majority of works are 6mm thick and are surprisingly sturdy.

Light passes through the transparent pieces, allowing transmitted light to reflect on the surfaces they are placed upon, interacting with their environment. The opaque glass pieces reflect light as opposed to trans-piercing the glass, producing a wonderful limpidity.

Kilnforming processes glass at temperatures up to 950 degrees Celsius. The process means that no two pieces are ever identical. While the colour and form can be controlled to an extent, the unique properties of glass produce different outcomes each time, making it an exciting and sometimes unpredictable medium to work with.

It also means that your purchase is a totally individual one-off. All pieces are unique, handcrafted and dishwasher safe. Glass can be made to your individual specification, please contact Claire for to discuss your commission and for colour options.

Mantisglass studios are based in The Stables, 2a Morrish Road, Brixton Hill, London. Please note the studio is a workspace, not a shop front. Visitors are welcome by appointment.
