We are a local complementary currency launched in 2009 to support independent businesses, makers, growers, traders and suppliers. Because the Brixton Pound can only be spent within participating businesses (some 200 of them!), the money circulates locally promoting local trade and production, and helping to preserve jobs.

The B£ exists in 4 paper notes denominations (B£1, B£5, B£10, B£20), as well as a new electronic format, with our launched Pay by Text service, which allows users to set up an B£ online account and to pay for goods and services via a text message.

With the Pay by Text service, every time users credit their account by simply moving money from their regular online bank account to the Brixton Pound bank account, an extra 10% bonus is automatically added to their credit, so for every £10 put in, B£11 are given.
