As with the smaller pots, I used a mixture of merino and Icelandic wool to make this. Merino wool is quite soft; Icelandic wool is coarser and helps to support the structure of the pot.
The outside is made with orange and dark brown merino wool, decorated with strands of pink silk thread. The inside is lined with white merino. In between these layers is are two layers of Icelandic wool to provide strength.
The pot is made by wet-felting, rubbing and rolling the wool fibres together with hot water and olive oil soap until they felt together. The result is strong but soft.
The commonest question I get asked is what can I use them for? Obviously you cannot put water in the pot, though you could put a small jar of water inside it if you want it to hold flowers. You can also use it to store keys, pens and pencils or other items. Or just use it as a decorative object in its own right - the felt is very tactile, and you'll find everyone wants to pick it up and stroke it!
