About Makerhood

Makerhood is a social enterprise supporting local making and skills in Brixton, Camberwell, Herne Hill, Stockwell and Clapham. We are a Community Interest Company led by volunteers.

We run online and physical world activities to promote local goods, help people acquire new skills, encourage greater links within the community, and support local makers in setting up and running their businesses. We believe this is good for us as individuals and for our communities, our economy and the environment.

You can find out more about our goals in our community interest statement.

In 2012 we were highly commended in the Lambeth Business Awards and were made Lambeth Champions in recognition of our contribution to the community.

About this website

This website is a marketplace and community for those living in Brixton, Camberwell, Herne Hill, Stockwell and Clapham. Here you can:

  • Find locally-made goods: Many local makers can’t afford a high-street presence, so buying online is a great way to support them. When you buy local you help support your neighbourhood, creativity and skills, but also get something unique that has a local connection.
  • Find local workshops and courses: Would you like to learn a new skill or brush up on a long-forgotten one? Browse through our directory of local courses
  • Connect with others: Join groups or create your own to share information, tips and answer questions related to making, creativity, food, markets and other topics.

About our events

We run events and workshops to help people learn new skills, support makers’ business development, and organise and promote local work at markets, fairs and exhibitions.

We also organise regular meet-ups and networking sessions for local makers and the local community.

Have a look at our blog to find out more about our activities!

How to get involved

If you are a local maker, you can set up a stall on this site. It’s free and easy. Read all about it in our sellers’ guide. When you have a stall here, you’re added to our mailing list and we will alert to you to new local opportunities for makers.

If you run making-related courses locally, you can add these to our free directory - everyone visiting the site will see them, and we will tweet about them and share them on Facebook

If you’d like to volunteer, drop us a line at hello@makerhood.com. This project is led by volunteers - we are a mixed and supportive bunch.

If you’d like to receive our monthly newsletter, simply sign up at the foot of this page! You can also follow us on Twitter or Facebook.

If you’d like to collaborate, just drop us a line at hello@makerhood.com.

Who we are

We are a community of local people from all walks of life, ages and backgrounds, united by our passion for making, skills, creativity, and sustainable consumption. We came together to launch this website in July 2011. The project has been growing since with more lovely people joining in to volunteer for the cause, and to make new friends in the community.

Enjoy Makerhood! :-)
